Sims Metal Management strong Health and Safety Culture

Sims Metal Management is committed to providing a safe, healthy, high quality, compliant and environmentally friendly work environment for all its employees, visitors, clients and suppliers.

Health and safety - zero harm

Health and Safety is one of the business’ highest priorities, with a dedicated programme being delivered throughout the globe called 'SimsMMWay'. The programme is aimed at ensuring health and safety is always at the forefront of every employee. Sims Metal Management has achieved an enviable record within the recycling industry with year-on-year reductions across all key performance indicators, operating key sites to OHSAS 18001.

Healty and Safety is a non-negotiable condition of employment and we are committed to a “zero harm” workplace, where every employee, contractor or visitor will return home in the same condition as he or she arrived. The charts below, show how we have significantly reduced lost time injury and medically treated injury rates over the last decade.

In Europe, Sims has acheived a 50% reduction in the All Accident Frequency Rate (AAFR) between 2008 and 2010 following introduction of SimsMMWay.  This trend is continuing and Sims is targeted to achieve another 50% reduction between 2010 and 2012.

Vision, Principles and Policy

Sims Group UK Limited through its’ UK Metals division, that uses the Sims Metal Management marketing brand name, operates the following SimsMMway Vision, Principles and Policy (“SimsMMway VPP”). Sims Metal Management’s core business is metal and electronics recycling via a network of dedicated facilities throughout England and Wales.
